Hvar has many treasures to discover and plenty of opportunities for sightseeing, including the charming fishing villages of Milna, Vrboska, and Zavala, where holidaymakers can truly immerse themselves in local culture. If you’re feeling adventurous, make sure to explore the southern coast’s hidden bays, or hop on a bike and pedal through the island’s lush green landscapes. Although the island is a modern holiday hotspot, thanks to its fabulously contemporary properties and lively nightlife, Hvar is also very historically significant. The island is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the captivating Stari Grad Plain, which has remained almost untouched since it was colonised by the Ancient Greeks in 384 BC. As well as this, the island's strategic location in the centre of the Adriatic has made it an important base for trade throughout history, meaning that there's plenty interesting architecture to see and stories to hear from the locals.

5. It's a foodie paradise

From wining and dining in a traditional 'konoba' to soaking up the seascapes from a glamorous waterfront restaurant, Hvar boasts a fabulous food scene. Seafood lovers are in for a treat, as you'll be able to indulge in delicious local delicacies that are brought in fresh from the harbour each day. During your stay on the island, you’ll sample traditional Dalmatian cuisine, usually seasoned with a generous amount of garlic, spices, herbs and olive oils.
