Kat Gica
I’m Kat, a wife and mum to two grown boys, and Nana to two small boys who are newly found thrill seekers. I’ve worked for many years in the tourism industry in Corfu, and more recently in the online social media space, which has allowed me to travel to the US and the Philippines. Born and raised in the South of England, I have now spent most of my life in Greece.
Describe the perfect day in your destination?
My perfect day starts with an early morning run while the day is still cool then back to bed for an early morning siesta. You could follow this up with a leisurely breakfast in the shade of the trees, a scooter ride to the beach, or a couple of hours messing around on a paddle board. Have lunch in a local taverna and stay on the beach until late to watch the sunset. Head home for a shower and change and head to town for a walk around the old streets. Finish the day with dinner on the Liston.
What are your top travel tips for your destination?
Corfu is at its best and most beautiful in the springtime. The days are warm and longer. Before the real heat of summer and the days start to get shorter. Mosquito repellent and a hat and you are good to go. Hire a car to explore both the North and the South of the island. Equally intriguing and very different. Explore the old town and sip coffee in the Liston. Corfu has something to offer everyone - beautiful beaches, wonderful walking/biking/running trails, diverse museums, noisy night life, and of course delicious food.
What local cuisine would you recommend to people staying in your destination?
Must haves are Corfu local dishes. Sofrito - veal cooked in wine sauce garlic and white pepper. Avgolemono - Egg and lemon with chicken or other meat. Greek traditional Moussaka. And don't miss out on the local pittas stuffed full of gyro meat, chips and sauce!
What experiences would you recommend to our customers in your destination?
If you have children old enough then a full day at Aqua land is a must, to be enjoyed by adults and kids alike. A boat trip is a great idea too - either via private hire or by joining an organised excursion. Scuba diving, paddle boarding, and horse riding are excellent options too. Of course, who could resist lazy summer days on one of the many beautiful beaches on Corfu.
